I've been in tech sales my entire career. Cold calling has been a significant part of my job, as well as for many of my peers. Let’s keep it 100—cold calling is hard. People don't like making them. People don't like getting them.
So, for the last few years, beyond just staying within the realms of tech sales, I've been plunging deep into the world of generative AI. I own and use hundreds of different AI tools and software. I’ve even developed a few myself. One thing that intrigued me was whether AI could effectively make cold calls and book appointments, essentially acting as an AI sales rep (AI SDR). I know a lot of people are curious about this too.
So, I got my hands on some promising software, programmed it with a few details about my business, and fed it a basic script outline. The primary goal? Booking appointments. It was pretty crazy.
Not everything was perfect. The sample size wasn’t huge, but decent enough. But, man, when it worked, it was intense. Check out this call with a prospect—a real, unstaged call where the person had no idea they were speaking to an AI. You’ll see that they quickly realized it was an AI and tried to throw it off with some wild questions. Questions about colors, poetry—you name it.
My AI SDR handled it like a champ, smoothly pivoting back to business and staying focused on the primary objective: booking an appointment for me. Let’s dive into the call.
